Starting or Switching to BAFIERTAM

Whether this is your first multiple sclerosis therapy or the next step in your treatment journey, BAFIERTAM® (monomethyl fumarate) offers established efficacy and a well-understood safety profile. Both physicians and patients appreciate that treatment with BAFIERTAM is free from diet restrictions. Here's what you need to know to get started.

Laboratory testing

Before starting treatment with BAFIERTAM, your doctor will likely perform testing to check your liver function and a complete blood count (CBC). This will include a lymphocyte count to check for an infection or blood disorder. Even if you are already taking another fumarate, you may still need a blood test. After starting treatment with BAFIERTAM, you can expect regular blood tests to track its safety.

  • The first follow-up CBC is 6 months after starting BAFIERTAM
  • Expect additional CBCs every 6 to 12 months after that and as clinically indicated, as determined by your doctor
  • Your doctor may also perform additional blood tests to check your liver, as needed

Dosing schedule

At first, your doctor will likely start you on half the dose—just one 95-mg capsule―taken by mouth twice a day for 7 days

After 7 days, your doctor will likely increase the dosage to two 95-mg capsules (190 mg) twice a day
